Chapter 2: Grapple Beam

This section of Metroid Dread builds on earlier mechanics while introducing new movement abilities like the Morph Ball Bomb and Flash Shift. Navigation becomes more complex, especially in EMMI zones and underwater areas, where positioning and timing are important. This guide will help you progress efficiently while highlighting key upgrades and avoiding common pitfalls.

Tips For This Section

Use the Flash Shift ability frequently to avoid enemies and reposition quickly, especially in tight spaces. When navigating underwater areas, movement is slower, so it's best to plan your jumps carefully to avoid falling back down. Also, keep an eye out for destructible blocks when using Morph Ball Bombs, as several upgrades are hidden in small spaces.

Common Mistakes

A common mistake in this section is failing to use the Speed Booster effectively, which can cause players to miss several missile expansions. Another issue is rushing through EMMI zones without planning an escape route, which increases the risk of getting caught.

Missile Expansion #12

Shoot the explosive to go right 1 room. Then shoot the explosives in the ceiling to jump all the way up and find a Missile Expansion.

Energy Part #3

Fall down and step on the switch to warp to Dairon. Shoot the explosive to go right 1 room. Proceed downward. Jump into the small space to get an Energy Part.

Morph Ball Bomb

Go left 2 rooms to speak with Adam. Take the left door and enter the EMMI zone. Take the door in the top right corner. Jump up and exit the EMMI zone in the top left corner. Enter the small space to go left 1 room. Jump all the way up and go left 2 rooms. Drop all the way down, jump up the right side of the room, and go right 1 room. Step on the switch to restore power. Shoot the explosive to go right 1 room. Enter the top left door to find the Map Station. Return to the previous room and take the missile door. Shoot the Chozo orb for the Morph Ball Bomb.

Missile Expansion #13

Use bombs to fall through the floor and find a Missile Expansion.

Missile Expansion #14

Go through the morph ball launcher. Drop down and take the bottom left door. Take the morph ball launcher. Head left 1 room. Drop down and enter the morph ball launcher. Use a bomb in the right wall to find a Missile Expansion.

Missile Expansion #15

Take the bottom morph ball launcher. Shoot the ceiling to find a Missile Expansion.

Missile Expansion #16

Enter the EMMI zone. Drop down and take the bottom left door. Exit the EMMI zone in the top left corner. Proceed downward and enter the left door. Take the lift to Burenia. Head left 1 room. Drop into the water, go to the left side of the room, jump up, and take the first door on the left. Continue upward and take the left door to speak with Adam. Go left 1 room. Fall down and take the first door on the right. Climb across the ceiling. Shoot the blocks in the small space to reach a Missile Expansion.

Missile Expansion #17

Fall into the water and enter the small space. Continue downward. When you enter the deep water, drift to the left to reach a Missile Expansion.

Flash Shift

Enter the small space in the right wall to go right 1 room. Open the door on the left. Then shoot the explosive above the door and go through that small space. Jump up the right wall and go through the missile door to get the Flash Shift.

Energy Tank #3

Use the flash shift to go left 1 room. Jump up and use the flash shift to reach an Energy Tank.

Missile Expansion #18

Use the flash shift to go through the door that's just above the energy tank. Continue right 1 more room. Fall into the water. Shoot the explosive in the bottom left corner. Before the water fills up, jump up to get a Missile Expansion.

Speed Booster

Shoot the explosive in the bottom right corner. Use the left side of the room to jump out of the water. Then shoot the explosive in the right wall to go right 1 room. Take the lift to Dairon. Go right 1 room and enter the EMMI zone. Use the flash shift to go up and take the first door on the left. Continue upward and take the top right door to find the Central Unit. After defeating it, head through the door. Use one of the long platforms in this large room to destroy the EMMI. This will give you the Speed Booster.

Energy Part #4

Jump up and use the speed booster to destroy the blocks leading to an Energy Part.

Missile Expansion #19

Go right 1 room and use the speed booster to exit the EMMI zone. Maintain the speed boost as you jump up and go through the small space to go left 1 room. Continue with the speed boost to jump up and grab the Missile Expansion.

Energy Tank #4

Use bombs to enter the EMMI zone at the top of the room. Use an upward speed boost jump on the right side of the room to reach an Energy Tank.

Missile Expansion #20

Head left 2 rooms. Jump onto the upper platform. Then use the speed booster to go right 1 room and find a Missile Expansion.

Energy Part #5

Return to the previous room and then go right 2 rooms. Take the door in the top right corner. Use the speed booster in the top right corner to go right 1 room. Shoot the hidden missile block in the ceiling to find an Energy Part.

Missile Expansion #21

Build and store a speed boost as you exit the EMMI zone in the right wall. Jump in the air and use a right speed boost jump to reach a Missile Expansion.

Missile Expansion #22

Enter the EMMI zone again. Take the top right door. Exit the EMMI zone through the right wall. Continue right 2 more rooms. Use an upward speed boost jump to reach a Missile Expansion.

Missile Expansion #23

Go right 1 room and take the lift to Cataris. Build a speed boost as you go right 1 room. Slide through the right wall and then store the speed boost. Head right, jump up, and use an upward speed boost jump to find a Missile Expansion.

Grapple Beam

Go left 1 room and take the lift back to Dairon. Head left 1 room. Jump all the way up, run left, and take the yellow portal to Artaria. Go left 1 room. Jump up and use the speed booster to exit the EMMI zone in the top left corner. Use an upward speed boost jump to go all the way up and head right 2 rooms. Enter the door in the bottom right corner. Take the missile door. Shoot the Chozo orb for the Grapple Beam.
